Leadership Experience
Bruce Cheney’s whole career has been dedicated to public service. He knows Laconia well, having worked in Law enforcement throughout his career and as Laconia's Chief of Police. He created and ran New Hampshire’s 911 emergency communications systems.

In 2018, he was elected Councilor of Ward 1 and has served for 4 terms.

“I’ve served the Lakes Region community for over two decades as a Police Chief in Gilford and Laconia.  From my experience in local law enforcement and as a long-time resident of Ward 1, I’ve learned our community’s strengths and weaknesses.  I believe I understand what it will take to keep Laconia moving in the right direction. As your Mayor, I will work to build a better Laconia.  I hope I can count on your vote and your support.”

A message from Bruce...
“My name is Bruce Cheney, and I’m running as an independent candidate for Mayor of Laconia.  Over the past few months I’ve seen various posts and articles from my opponent, Mike Bordes and his team.  Most are filled with senseless dialogue and offer no concrete solutions.  I decided specifically not to engage.

He mentions that the “Laconia Mayor’s race is non-partisan…” but he is backed by one of the most partisan organizations in the country, the AFL-CIO.

I have not asked ANY partisan leaders to endorse me.  I do ask them to vote for me, as I am confident that they know me and they know my years of dedicated work for Laconia.

Bordes mentions all the Laconia city departments and mentions the Fire Department’s equipment and manpower needs that he plans to address.  This shows that he is out of touch with what the current councilors and I have done this past year. He fails to mention my successful efforts to provide a significant increase in pay for ALL city employees….ABOVE the Union negotiated pay scale to help retain our outstanding employees. Apparently he doesn’t know that we added 4 additional firefighters in 2022, ordered 2 new ambulances, an engine truck, more personal protective gear, and a new ladder truck to keep our firefighters and our community safe.  He must also be unaware that we have authorized a new Community Paramedic program that provides a higher level of medical service to our citizens, and we did this and managed to remain under the Tax Cap.

I feel that it is a conflict of interest for Mike Bordes to be both a State Rep and a mayor.  Laconia deserves to have a Mayor all-in and fully committed to this great city.  I am that candidate and ask for your vote.”

As Governor, I worked with Bruce Cheney and saw his leadership first hand as he spearheaded NH's 911 emergency services & communications system.  We need experienced leaders like Bruce today, and that's why I support him as Laconia's next Mayor."

He routinely makes himself available to learn about the requests and concerns of the community.

Here is a recent photo of Bruce with the residents of Simpson Avenue gathering to thank Bruce for getting the City Ordinances changed to allow for "resident only" parking signs.
